Yorkshire's Rudding Park named "Number one hotel in UK" by TripAdvisor for a second year.
31st January 2011
Harrogate's Rudding Park hotel (which is represented by HotelREZ) has been crowned 'Number One Hotel in the UK' for the second year running, triumphing over some of the UK's finest hotels in the TripAdvisor® Travellers' Choice Awards 2011.
The prestigious accolade is based solely on the millions of real and unbiased reviews and opinions from travellers gathered on the travel guide website www.tripadvisor.com.
Favouring Yorkshire over the capital, world travellers gave Rudding Park its top place in the UK rankings for a second time despite fierce competition from luxury hotels across the UK.
Peter Banks, Managing Director of Rudding Park, said: "Winning the TripAdvisor® 'Best Hotel in the UK' award for a second year running is proof that an independent Yorkshire hotel can match and beat the most famous names in British hospitality".
"The award is true testament to the dedication of our staff. We look forward to enhancing our guests' experiences even further with the opening of our new 48 bedroom extension and Spa. The care and attention that our staff have provided over the last 12 months will now be matched by larger, more luxurious bedrooms, some of which have private ensuite steam rooms and saunas".
"This past year has demanded even more of our staff as the extension has placed an additional strain on every department. To receive this accolade as the new extension opens is, therefore, a reward to the Rudding Park team for their exceptional efforts this year."
Gary Verity, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire, said "Accolades don't come much higher than this. To win this award two years running is fantastic news for Rudding Park and thoroughly deserved. We all know that Yorkshire is the best place to visit in the UK and awards like this just reinforce how great our county is to a wider audience!"
Over the years, numerous special guests have stayed at Rudding Park including Bill Clinton, George Bush Snr, Mikhail Gorbachev, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and John Cleese.

Notes to Editors:
Rudding Park is independently owned by Simon Mackaness and his family. Over the last 35 years, they have carried out a comprehensive programme of improvement and redevelopment which includes the opening of Rudding Holiday Park in 1978, the renovation of Rudding Park House in 1987 and the subsequent opening of the 50-room hotel in 1997.
The estate also comprises an 18 hole, par-72 golf course set in mature Parkland, complemented by an 18 bay floodlit driving range and golf academy. A new development of 18 luxury holiday lodges adjacent to the golf course opened in May 2006 and a par-3 six hole short course opened in April 2008.
A 48 room hotel extension opened in January 2011. By March 2011, a mini spa and private cinema will complete the exciting development.
